Jabil's valuation gap into earnings
Jabil sits in an awkward, investable gap: a model still implies the shares are 29.7% undervalued at roughly US$264.15, but the stock has already returned 89.8% over the last year. With earnings due Sep. 24, this is not just a quiet valuation puzzle. It is a contest between investors who still see a discount and investors who think much of the upside is already in the price.
The bullish case has some recent support. JabilJBL-- beat Q3 EPS consensus, reporting $3.16 versus $3.10 expected, while revenue rose to $8.75 billion, above estimates. The more important question now is whether that momentum can carry into the next report.
The bearish case is simpler: after a big run, many investors may still be valuing Jabil like a high-quality manufacturer rather than fully repricing it for AI infrastructure exposure. That leaves room for either a rerating or a sharp reset, depending on what management delivers.

Why the AI narrative matters more than the EMM label
Why bulls want a rerating
The bull case is not just that Jabil can post another decent quarter. It is that AI demand is already showing up in reported results. Its Intelligent Infrastructure segment grew 21%, helped by double-digit gains in cloud and data center infrastructure and a 50% jump in networking supported by India ramps. That gives investors more to anchor on than a theme slide.
Management also described a land-and-expand approach after securing a third hyperscale customer. If Jabil keeps widening from specific AI capabilities into broader data center solutions, the market may increasingly view it as more than a cost-focused hardware partner.

That shift can also become self-reinforcing. Once investors see real revenue contribution, excitement can move quickly from "possible AI exposure" to "core AI winner." The recent beat-and-raise pattern can feed that move. The valuation argument works only if investors can tell the difference between durable momentum and herd momentum.
Why bears still push back
Bears are not just being contrarian. Jabil still faces real concentration risk because the near-term case leans heavily on hyperscale customers. External constraints, such as lead times for next-generation silicon, could also slow ramps if component bottlenecks persist.
There is also a structural debate about how richly the market should value a contract manufacturer. Even when high-complexity integration improves the story, it does not automatically justify a much richer multiple if demand proves lumpy or bargaining power remains constrained.
Diversification cuts both ways. The same mix that can cushion shocks can also dilute the AI narrative, making it harder for investors to separate a true strategic shift from temporary demand strength.
What has to happen for the stock to close the valuation gap
The setup into Sep. 24 before the open looks more like a pause than a rejection. With a 7-day return of 0.4% and a 30-day return of 0.8%, the stock has been relatively quiet heading into earnings.
What would strengthen the case
The bullish thesis gets stronger if management converts momentum into repeatable evidence: - Another earnings beat with solid revenue follow-through - More detail showing AI-linked demand is broadening, not just peaking for one quarter - Confirmation that hyperscale expansion and higher-complexity content are progressing
What would weaken the case
The thesis does not need a simple miss to weaken. It would be damaged if: - AI growth slows or becomes harder to distinguish from normal cycle variability - Hyperscale demand sounds less durable than investors currently assume - Concerns about customer concentration or supply constraints become more prominent
Positioning into the print
The valuation gap can narrow quickly if Jabil delivers another strong quarter and reinforces its AI infrastructure demand story. But if management sounds less certain on AI mix or hyperscale expansion, the market may decide the stock is cheap for a reason.
For now, the cleanest framing is simple: Jabil looks attractive only if the AI growth story remains durable enough to justify a richer multiple.
