Transalta Corporation consists of a certificate of merger issued on October 8, 1992 under the Canada Business Corporations Act. TransAlta has been engaged in the production and sale of electric energy since 1909. It is one of the largest publicly traded power generators in Canada, owning and operating a diversified fleet across Canada, the United States and Western Australia. The company's operations are divided into six sectors: hydropower, wind and solar, gas, energy transformation, energy marketing, and enterprises.
