SunCoke Energy, Inc., based on annual coke production tons, is the largest independent producer of high-quality coke in the Americas, with more than 50 years of coke production experience. Coke is a main raw material in the process of blast furnace steelmaking. Coke converts metallurgical coal into coke by heating metallurgical coal in a refractory furnace, releasing specific volatile components. The Company has designed, developed, manufactured, owned and operated five coking facilities in the United States; designed and operated one coking facility in Brazil under a customer license and operating agreement, and has a number of joint venture interests in coking plants in India.
