Select Medical Holdings Corporation, which began operations in 1997, considers itself one of the largest operators of specialty hospitals and outpatient rehabilitation clinics in the United States. As of December 31, 2015, the Company operated 321 long-term acute care hospitals, 127 inpatient rehabilitation clinics in 27 states, and 1,611 outpatient rehabilitation clinics in 37 states and the District of Columbia. The company also provides medical rehabilitation services in the form of contracts to nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living and retirement centers, schools and workplaces.
