Joby Aviation, Inc., was incorporated in Delaware on July 3, 2020. The company is developing an all-electric plane with zero operational emissions that will transport one pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph, while also taking off and landing vertically. The company is working closely with the Federal Aviation Administration to certify the aircraft for commercial operation. Joby is the first electric vertical take-off and landing company to receive the signed Phase 4 G-1 certification basis, and they have now effectively completed two of the five phases of type certification.
