ORIX Corporation was established in Osaka, Japan on April 17, 1964 as Oriental Leasing Co., Ltd., consisting of three trading companies and five banks, including Nippon Corporation, Nissho Corporation and Iwai Corporation, Sanwa Bank (Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group), Toyo Trust Bank (now Mitsubishi Trust Bank), Japan Industrial Bank and Japan Kanye Bank (now Mizuho Bank Bank, Mizuho Holdings) and Kobe Bank (now SMBC Banking Corporation). The company restructured its business into six parts to facilitate strategy formulation, resource allocation and balance of investment structure. The six businesses are: corporate financial services, maintenance and leasing, real estate, investment and operations, retail and overseas business.
