Imax Corporation and its wholly-owned subsidiaries are one of the world's leading entertainment technology companies specializing in film technology and film projection. IMAX offers unique end-to-end film solutions combined with patented software, theater buildings and equipment to create the highest quality, most immersive film experiences, which make the IMAX brand known globally. Producers and studio use IMAX theaters to communicate with audiences in novel ways. Therefore, IMAX's network is distributed in the most important and successful theaters in the world, which are the main platforms for the broadcasting of big movies. The company also undertakes new business, especially in the field of home theater entertainment. In 2013, the company announced two new initiatives, including a joint venture of TCL Holdings Ltd to design, develop, produce and sell high-priced home theater systems, and an investment in PRIMA Films, the manufacturer of a patented system for transmitting current releases to families for viewing. In 2015, TCL hopes to launch a new home theater system in China and other developed global markets, which combines IMAX projection components with audio technology for wider home entertainment and PRIMA technology. The company also recently started selling a niche product, IMAX Private Cinema, a theater-level, expensive home theater system. The Company and its consolidated subsidiaries are a Canadian company formed in March 1994 by the merger of WGIM Acquisition Corp. and the former IMAX Corporation (" Formerly IMAX "). The predecessor IMAX was established in 1967.
