Hormel Foods Corporation, a Delaware corporation, was founded by George Holmer in Austin, Minnesota in 1891 as the George Hommer Company. The company started as a meat and food processing business and has been doing this business. In 1995, the company changed its name to Hormel Foods Corporation. The company is primarily engaged in the production of a variety of meats and food products, and sells these processed products throughout the United States and internationally. Although pork and turkey have been the main raw materials for the company's products, the company has been emphasizing the production and sale of branded and value-added consumer products for many years, rather than bulk fresh meat products. The Company continues to expand its product portfolio through organic growth and acquisitions. Internationally, the Company sells its products through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Hormel Foods International (HFIC). HFIC has a global presence in the international market by setting up joint ventures and staffing in strategically important foreign regions such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan and the Philippines.
