Fastly, Inc., was originally incorporated under the laws of Delaware in March 2011 as SkyCache, Inc., and the company changed its name to Fastly, Inc. in May 2012. Developers are reshaping the way people live, work and play online. However, they continue to encounter innovation barriers in providing modern digital experiences. Edge cloud is a new category of IaaS that enables developers to build, secure and deliver digital experiences at the edge of the internet. The service represents the convergence of CDN with functions traditionally provided by hardware-centric devices such as ADC, WAF, Bot Detection and DDoS solutions. It also includes the emergence of a new but growing edge computing market that aims to bring computing power and logic as close to the end user as possible. Edge cloud uses the emerging cloud computing, serverless paradigm, where cloud providers run servers and dynamically manage the allocation of machine resources. Edge processing is an ideal way to handle highly dynamic and time-sensitive data when milliseconds are important. Edge cloud complements data center, central cloud and hybrid solutions.
