Flowers Foods, Inc., the origin of Flowers food can be traced back to 1919. At that time, two brothers, William Howard and Joseph Hampton Flowers, established Flowers Bank Corporation in Thomasville, Ghana. In 1968, Flowers Bank Corporation came into the market as a flower industry and began over-the-counter stock trading. Less than a year later, the company was listed on the American Stock Exchange. In 1982, Flowers was listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol FLO. In the mid-1990s, the Flowers industry transformed from a strong regional baker to a national baked goods company with the acquisition of Cabot Foods, a large biscuit company and the best-selling Mrs. Smith frozen pie brand.
