Founded in Delaware in 1998 and listed in 2001, Peabody Energy Corporation is the world's largest private coal company with 26 coal mining operations in the United States and Australia. In addition to the mining business, the Company sells, brokers and trades coal through its trading and brokerage segment. The company operates its business through four segments: American Western Mining, American Mining in the Midwest, Australian Mining Trading and Brokerage. The company's fifth division includes mining and export/transportation joint ventures, business matters related to certain energy activities, related BTU conversion, coal reserves and real estate investment and cost optimization related to the company's past mining business.
