Founded in Nebraska in 1948, The Buckle, Inc., started out with only one location under the name of Mills Clothing (a regular men's clothing store). And now Buckle is a retailer of middle- to higher-priced casual wear, footwear and accessories for fashionable young men and women. The company occupies a large market share and owns most brands of jeans, other casual pants, tops, sportswear, outerwear, accessories and footwear. Emphasizing a personalized focus, the company offers customers services such as free edging, free gift wrapping, down payment shopping, private label credit cards and frequent flyer items. Most of the stores are located in shopping malls and living centers with developed regional transportation, which is a strategy for future expansion. Most of the company's central functions including purchasing, pricing, accounting, advertising and sales are controlled by the headquarters and the distribution center in Carney, Nebraska. Part of the company's men's buying team and marketing team is located in Kansas Overland Park.
