American Homes 4 Rent, founded in Maryland on October 19, 2012, is an internally managed Maryland real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on the acquisition and renewal of single-family properties and leasing business. The Company commenced operations in November 2012 to continue the investment business of AH Limited. AH Limited was founded in 2011 by the company's chairman, B. Wayne Hughes, taking advantage of the market dislocation of single-family properties.
