Assured Guaranty Ltd., a Bermuda holding company incorporated in 2003. Through its subsidiaries, the company provides credit assurance products for the U.S. and international public finance, infrastructure and structured finance markets. The company applies its credit guarantee judgment, risk management capabilities and capital market experience to develop insurance, reinsurance and credit derivatives to protect holders of debt instruments and other monetary obligations from default during the scheduled payment period, including regular interest and principal payments. The securities underwritten by the company include taxable and tax-free debt issued by US state or municipal government agencies, utilities or facilities units; notes or bonds issued to international financing infrastructure projects; and asset-backed securities issued by special purpose entities. The company sells its credit protection products directly to issuers, underwriters of public finance, infrastructure and structured finance securities, and investors who invest in such debt. Although its main focus is in the US, Europe and Australia, the company still guarantees debt issued in many other countries.
