The York Water Company was founded on February 23, 1816. The York Water Company is the oldest water company investor in the United States and was officially established in accordance with the federal laws of Pennsylvania. The company has been in continuous operation since 1816. The company's business is water storage, purification, production of drinking water that meets or exceeds safe drinking water standards, and redistribution of water. The company's business scope includes authorized areas, covering York County, 39 municipalities in Pennsylvania, and Adams County, 9 municipalities in Pennsylvania. The company is regulated by the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission (or PPUC) and covers areas such as billing, payment procedures, dispute resolution, terminals, service areas, debt and equity financing and rate setting. Companies must obtain PPUC approval before changing any practices related to the above areas. Tap water is supplied through the company's own distribution system.
