Star Holdings was incorporated in Maryland on October 7, 2022 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of iStar. Until iStar provides the company with assets and business related to the spin-off, the company will have no operations and assets other than the nominal cash generated by the company's initial capitalization. The company's company will inherit assets owned by iStar prior to the completion of the spin-off, which are left over from its historical non-land lease related businesses, including real estate financing, operating property, land and development.
