Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc., was established on October 9, 1998. Neptune is a biotechnology company principally engaged in the development, production and commercialization of Omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids from the ocean. Neptune mainly develops, manufactures and commercializes Omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Neptune sells Omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acid oils primarily as bulk oil to Neptune's distributors, who commercialize them in the U.S., European and Australian health product markets under their own private labels. Commercialized products are generally in the form of capsules and are given to consumers as dietary supplements. The production of commercial krill oil was launched in 2002. Neptune pioneered the commercialization of omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids extracted from krill in order to maintain human health, and it is still based on its proprietary technology to further advance the development of its products. Further mentioning Neptune production equipment, Neptune's manufacturing leading products, Neptune Krill Oil (NKO) and ECOKRILL Oil (EKO), will not commercialize Neptune for the time being. Neptune has maintained a portion of its market share through the EKO-like commodity krill oil supply market, which is expected to continue until the company can resume production and sales of its leading products — NKO and EKO.
