Methanex Corporation was legally incorporated in Alberta on March 11, 1968, and was extended by the Canadian Business Companies Act on March 5, 1992. The company is the world's largest producer and supplier of methanol to major international markets in Asia Pacific, North America, Europe and South America. Including Methanex's interest in jointly owned plants, their total annual operating capacity is currently 9.3 million tonnes, located in the United States, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago, Chile, Egypt and Canada. In addition to the methanol produced at their own sites, they purchase methanol produced by others under methanol offtake contracts and on the spot market. This enables them to flexibly manage the supply chain while continuing to meet customer needs and support their marketing efforts. They have marketing rights for 100% of the production of the plant jointly owned by Trinidad and Tobago and Egypt, which provides them with an additional 1.3 million tons of methanol offtake supply per year while the plant is operating at full capacity.
