First Merchants Corporation is a financial holding company headquartered in Muncie, Indiana, founded in September 1982. The company's common stock trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market system under the symbol FRME. The Company owns a full-service banking franchise, the First China Merchants Bank National Association (the "Bank "), which opened in March 1893 in Muncie, Indiana. The bank also operates Lafayette Bank and Trust, Commerce National Bank and First China Merchants Trust Company, as a division of First China Merchants Bank, N.A. The bank has 116 banking outlets in 27 counties in Indiana and two counties in Ohio. In addition to the branch network, the company's delivery channels include ATM, cheque cards, remote deposit capture, interactive voice response systems and internet technology. The company's business activities are currently limited to one important business segment, namely community banking.
Through the bank, the company provides a wide range of financial services, including accepting time deposits, savings and demand deposits; making consumer, commercial, agribusiness and real estate mortgage loans; renting safe deposit facilities; providing personal and corporate trust services; providing full-service brokerage; and providing corporate services, letters of credit and repurchase agreements.
