Farmers & Merchants Bancorp, Inc., a bank holding company, was incorporated under the laws of Ohio in 1985 and became a financial holding company under the Federal Reserve in 2014. Its main subsidiary, Farmers Commercial Bank, has been a community bank operating in Northwest Ohio and Northeast Indiana since 1897. Their other subsidiary, Farmer & Merchant Risk Management, is a captive insurance company established in December 2014 in Nevada. Farmers Bank is engaged in commercial banking business. Its activities include commercial, agricultural and home mortgages and consumer credit card lending activities. Because the Bank's offices are located in Northwest Ohio and Northeast Indiana, a substantial loan portfolio includes agricultural land loans such as farmland, farm equipment, livestock and seed operating loans, fertilizers, and feed. Other types of lending activity include home improvement loans and loans for items such as cars, trucks, recreational vehicles and motorcycles. As the market expands into emerging markets, the recent increase in lending activity has been in the commercial real estate market, providing credit and machinery procurement business.
