Capstone Green Energy Corporation was formed in 1988, and on June 22, 2000, it was re-incorporated as a Delaware corporation. Capstone Turbines develops, manufactures, sells and services microturbines that provide technology solutions in stationary distributed power generation applications, including integrated cogeneration, combined with cooling, thermal and power generation, renewable energy, natural resources and critical power supply. In addition, the company's microturbines can be used as batteries to charge generators for hybrid electric vehicle applications. Micro-turbines allow customers to connect to the grid in parallel or single-machine production site power when there is no public grid available. Some technologies are used to provide "on-site power generation" such as reciprocating engines, solar power generation, wind power generation systems and fuel cells. For customers who are not connected to the utility grid, microturbines provide them with clean, on-site energy. These energy sources have lower scheduled maintenance intervals and better flexibility than other competing technology fuels. Microturbines provide an additional source of continuous operating power for customers connected to the grid, providing additional reliability and potential cost savings.
