Wayfair's Q2 Looked Good on Paper-Now the Parking Lot Has to Back It Up

Wayfair's best quarter since 2021 shifts the debate
The debate around WayfairW-- is no longer just about operational cleanup. Investors now need evidence that demand is strong enough to support a richer multiple. That decision window is open now, because Wayfair just delivered what management described as its best quarter since 2021.
On paper, the results look constructive. Revenue rose 7.5% year over year, orders increased 6%, and new order growth accelerated for a fourth straight quarter to a post-COVID high. That streak matters: a single quarter can be a bounce, but four consecutive quarters of improving order momentum are harder to dismiss. The operating profile also looks healthier. Adjusted EBITDA margin reached 6.9%, free cash flow was $301 million, and total liquidity stood at $1.6 billion. This looks more like a business regaining traction than one simply borrowing momentum.

What investors need to see in Q3
The next checkpoint is Q3. Management already set expectations around contribution margin, so the key question is straightforward: does order momentum and margin discipline hold? If it does, investors have a clearer reason to pay up. If it fades, Q2 may look less like a true turning point and more like a strong quarter within a longer rebuild.
