James Hardie Building Products introduces The Impeckable House, a home designed to protect against woodpecker damage. With an estimated 70 million woodpeckers in North America and 1.4 million in Wisconsin alone, homeowners often view them as pests. The Impeckable House uses Hardie fiber cement siding to shield against woodpecker damage, proving that wood-look homes and woodpeckers can coexist.

James Hardie Building Products Inc. (James Hardie), a subsidiary of James Hardie Industries plc (NYSE: JHX; ASX: JHX), has introduced The Impeckable™ House—a home designed to withstand woodpecker damage. The Impeckable™ House was constructed using Hardie® fiber cement siding and trim products, demonstrating the durability and aesthetic appeal of these materials.

The United States is home to 23 unique species of woodpeckers, with an estimated population of over 70 million across North America [1]. In Wisconsin alone, there are an estimated 1.4 million woodpeckers, making them a significant concern for homeowners [1]. To address this issue, James Hardie built The Impeckable™ House, which was placed in a dense, woodpecker-rich forest in Wisconsin to test its durability against woodpecker damage.

The Impeckable™ House remained undamaged despite residing in a woodpecker-filled forest during peak mating season. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of Hardie® fiber cement siding in protecting homes from woodpecker damage. The siding provides an authentic wood-look style with the added durability of Hardie® fiber cement, ensuring long-lasting beauty and resistance to pests.

In addition to its resistance to woodpecker damage, Hardie® fiber cement siding is noncombustible and resistant to moisture, swelling, cracking, and warping due to rain, sleet, or snow [2]. These properties make it an ideal solution for various climates and home styles, offering low-maintenance and optimal performance tailored to specific regions [2].

The Impeckable™ House will be donated to Gensburg-Markham Prairie, part of the larger Indian Boundary Prairies managed by Northeastern Illinois University and The Nature Conservancy in Illinois, where it will serve as a haven for woodpecker researchers.

Sean Gadd, president of North America for James Hardie Building Products Inc., stated, "Homeowners shouldn't have to choose between beauty and durability. The Impeckable™ House proves that with Hardie® products, you can create a beautiful home that's meant to last and holds less appeal to pests like woodpeckers."
