In Hilliard, Ohio, Amazon's campus is tied to 228 natural gas-fed "fuel cell" units and a fleet of 158 backup diesel generators. Even though behind-the-meter power is meant to ease pressure on the wider grid, locals are still pushing back over air quality, safety, and the visible footprint of the project.
That matters because investors do not need a full-scale movement to feel the impact. Delays, modified permits, or sustained negative headlines can be enough to turn a fast-deployment story into a stretched one.
