Natural Gas

Natural gas refers to all gases that exist naturally in the environment, including those formed by natural processes in the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere (including gases from oil fields, gas fields, mud volcanoes, coal bed gas, and biogenic gas, among others). However, the commonly used definition of “natural gas” from an energy perspective is a narrow definition referring to a mixture of hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon gases naturally present in geological formations. In petroleum geology, it usually refers to gas from oil fields and gas fields. Its composition is mainly hydrocarbons and contains non-hydrocarbon gases as well.
