Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, Ameren Corporation was formed by the merger of UE and CIPSCO in 1997, acquired CILCORP and IP in 2003 and 2004, respectively, and became a utility holding company under the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 2005. Ameren and its subsidiaries operate rate-regulated power generation, transmission and distribution businesses, and rate-regulated natural gas transportation and distribution businesses primarily in Missouri. The company's main assets are its subsidiaries, including UE, AIC and power generation companies. The independent business of the subsidiary is separate from the assets, liabilities and legal entities. These subsidiaries operate, as the case may be, raising the interest rate of the power generation, transmission and distribution business, raising the interest rate of the natural gas transmission and distribution business, and the merchant power generation business in Missouri and Illinois.
