Gulf Island Fabrication, Inc., was founded in Louisiana. The company is a leading manufacturer of complex steel structures and ships for energy extraction and production, petrochemical and industrial facilities, power generation and alternative energy projects, and shipping and marine transportation businesses. The company also provides related installation, connection, commissioning, repair and maintenance services with professional crew and integrated project management capabilities. The company is currently building complex modules for a new petrochemical plant, completing new construction of two technologically advanced offshore support and two multi-purpose service vessels, and recently manufactured a wind turbine base for the first offshore wind power project in the United States. The company also built one of the largest crane ships serving the Gulf of Mexico (" GOM "), one of the deepest production jackets in GOM and the first SPAR made in the United States. The company's clients include the United States and, to a lesser extent, international energy producers, petrochemical, industrial, power and marine operators. The company operates through three business segments: manufacturing, shipyards and services, which are discussed further below. The company uses modern welding and manufacturing techniques and all its projects are manufactured to industry standards, codes and regulations, including the American Petroleum Institute, the American Welding Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the US Bureau of Shipping and the US Coast Guard. The quality management system of the company's operating department is certified as ISO 9001-2008 Quality Assurance Program.
