First Financial Bankshares, Inc., is a Texas financial holding company registered under the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956 as amended. As such, it is overseen by the Federal Reserve and other banking regulators. The company was founded in 1956 as a bank holding company, formerly known as F & M Operating Company, but its banking business dates back to 1890. At that time, the National Bank of Farmers and Merchants opened in Abilene, Texas. As of December 30, 2012, the company owned 11 banks, a trust company, a technology operation company and an insurance agency. All companies operate from Texas. Effective December 30, 2012, the company consolidated eleven banking licenses into the First Financial Bank (National Association) Abilene Banking License, in order to reduce certain operating costs and enable the company to conduct technical and compliance operations more efficiently. In addition, on May 31, 2013, it acquired Orange Savings Bank SSB and merged Oranged Savings Bank SSb as its branch.
