The Andersons, Inc., is a customer-centric startup with operations in multiple segments of the agriculture and transportation markets. Since its establishment in 1947, the company has developed special core competitiveness in various market areas of grain risk management, batch processing, transportation and logistics, and understanding of its commodities. The company uses its special core competitiveness to expand its business into other complementary markets, including ethanol, car rental, phytonutrients, lawn products and general merchandise retail. The company operates in five divisions: the grain and ethanol division conducts grain purchase operations, operates grain elevator warehouses in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois, and invests in the management of corn-to-ethanol products and related services. The company also owns a Lansing Trading Group Co., Ltd., an international trading company focused on the physical circulation of brewed dry food, feed, biofuels, cotton, freight and other commodities. The railway division is engaged in the sales, repair, reconfiguration, management and leasing of train cars and locomotives. The Food Nutrition Division manufactures and sells dry and liquid agricultural nutrients and distributes agricultural input products (nutrients, chemicals, seeds, materials) to distributors and farmers. The Turf Specialty Division produces turf, ornamental plant fertilizers, control products for lawns and gardens and professional golf and garden landscapes, as well as a wide range of corn products. The retail division operates large retail stores, a specialty food market and a distribution center in Ohio.
