While the top-line and earnings beats were relatively small, the results reinforced a broader narrative: demand tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure remains extremely strong and continues to accelerate across multiple parts of Marvell’s portfolio.The company’s data center business remains the dominant growth engine. Data center revenue rose to approximately $1.65 billion during the quarter, representing about 74% of total sales and increasing roughly 21% year over year. The segment benefited from strong demand for networking and connectivity solutions used inside hyperscale data centers, including high-speed optical interconnects and switching technologies. These components are critical for enabling communication between GPUs, CPUs, memory systems, and storage devices in AI clusters, and they are becoming increasingly important as model sizes and compute requirements expand.Management highlighted that Marvell’s networking and interconnect products are seeing especially strong demand. The company expects its interconnect business to grow more than 50% in fiscal 2027, reflecting the rapid scaling of AI infrastructure. CEO Matt Murphy noted that bookings across the data center portfolio are growing at record levels and that visibility into future demand has improved significantly. That confidence allowed management to raise its outlook for the next several years, a move that appears to have been the biggest catalyst for the stock’s rally.For the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Marvell expects revenue of approximately $2.4 billion plus or minus 5%, well above the Street’s estimate of about $2.27 billion. Adjusted earnings are projected to land around $0.79 per share, compared with consensus expectations near $0.74. Gross margins are expected to remain healthy, with non-GAAP gross margin guidance in the range of roughly 58.25% to 59.25%. The company also indicated that revenue growth should accelerate throughout fiscal 2027 as data center demand continues to expand.The longer-term outlook was even more striking. Management raised its fiscal 2027 revenue outlook to nearly $11 billion, up from prior expectations of around $10 billion. Looking further ahead, the company now expects fiscal 2028 revenue to approach $15 billion, well above analyst estimates that had been closer to $13 billion. That implies roughly 40% growth in fiscal 2028, reflecting strong demand across custom silicon, interconnect solutions, and optical networking technologies.One of the most important themes discussed during the call was Marvell’s growing presence in the custom AI chip market. The company designs application-specific integrated circuits, or ASICs, tailored to the workloads of hyperscale cloud providers. Unlike general-purpose processors such as those produced by Nvidia (NVDA), these custom chips are optimized for specific tasks such as training large language models or running inference workloads. Marvell’s custom compute business currently represents roughly 10% to 15% of revenue but is expected to grow rapidly as hyperscalers increasingly seek alternatives to off-the-shelf GPUs.Much of this demand is tied to hyperscalers developing their own internal AI chips, including tensor processing units and other accelerator architectures. Companies such as Alphabet (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN), and Meta Platforms (META) are collectively expected to spend more than $600 billion on AI infrastructure this year. Marvell’s products sit at the center of that build-out, providing connectivity and custom silicon that enable these large-scale computing clusters to function efficiently.The company also addressed questions about customer concentration, an issue that has weighed on investor sentiment in recent months. Some analysts have speculated that Marvell could lose certain design wins to competitors, particularly in custom chip programs involving Amazon or Microsoft. Management pushed back on those concerns, emphasizing that the company’s customer base is becoming more diversified over time and that design wins reached record levels in fiscal 2026. According to Murphy, the company expects diversification to improve further as new hyperscale programs ramp in coming years.Another strategic focus involves optical networking and photonic connectivity technologies. Marvell recently completed the $3.25 billion acquisition of Celestial AI, which specializes in photonic fabrics designed to move massive amounts of data between processors using light rather than electrical signals. The company also acquired XConn Technologies to strengthen its interconnect capabilities. These technologies are increasingly important as AI clusters scale to thousands of chips, creating massive data-movement bottlenecks that traditional electrical connections struggle to handle.Analysts reacted positively to the report and the updated outlook. Several firms upgraded the stock or raised price targets following the earnings release. Bank of America raised its rating to Buy and increased its price target to $110, while Benchmark upgraded the stock with a $130 target. Stifel and KeyBanc also raised their long-term revenue estimates, citing improved visibility into Marvell’s growth trajectory and stronger demand for AI-related networking solutions.Overall, the results reinforced a key narrative in the semiconductor industry: the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure is driving demand not only for GPUs but also for the networking and connectivity technologies that link these systems together. Marvell appears well positioned to benefit from that trend through its mix of custom ASICs, optical interconnects, and networking silicon. While investor concerns about customer concentration remain, the company’s raised guidance and strong bookings suggest that demand from hyperscalers remains robust.With shares now back above the 200-day moving average, the stock’s next test will be whether it can sustain momentum after the initial post-earnings rally. If demand for AI infrastructure continues at the current pace, Marvell could remain one of the key beneficiaries of the next phase of the data center build-out.
