ING Groep N.V., formerly known as Naamloze Vennootschap, was established on March 4, 1991 by the merger of Nationale-Nederlanden, once the largest insurance company in the Netherlands, and NMB Postbank Group, once one of the largest banks in the Netherlands. Netherlands International N.V. is incorporated under the laws of the Netherlands. The main source of funds for ING Bank's operations is the growth of retail funds, which mainly include current accounts, savings and retail deposits, loan repayments, disposal and redemption of investment securities, sale of traded portfolio securities, interest income and commission income. The main uses of funds are to advance loans and other credit, invest, purchase investment securities, fund trading portfolios, interest expenses and administrative expenses.
