The company is a commercial stage medical technology company focused on designing, developing and selling products that improve the quality of life of people with mental illness. The company's first commercial product, the NeuroStar Advanced Treatment System, is a non-invasive, non-systematic, office-based treatment that uses transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS, to create a pulsed MRI-strength magnetic field that induces electrical currents designed to stimulate specific areas of the brain associated with emotion. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, approved the system to treat adult patients with major depression or MDD who have not achieved satisfactory improvement from previous antidepressants in their current MDD episodes.
