Commerce Bancshares, Inc., a bank holding company under the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956 (as amended), was incorporated under the laws of Missouri on August 4, 1966. The company owns the entire outstanding share capital of a national banking association, the North American branch of the commercial bank, which is headquartered in Missouri. The bank is engaged in general banking business, providing a wide range of services to individuals and businesses, including retail, corporate, investment, trust, asset management and other products and services. The company also owns various non-bank subsidiaries directly or indirectly through the bank. Its activities include underwriting credit insurance, credit accident and medical insurance, sales of property insurance (involving the bank's consumer loans), private equity investments, securities brokerage, bank mortgages, and leasing business.
