American National Bankshares Inc., founded in 1984 in Virginia, is a single-bank holding company. On September 1, 1984, the Company acquired all outstanding shares of the National Bank and Trust Company (the 1909 Chartered National Banking Association). National Bank and Trust Company is the Company's sole banking subsidiary. In April 2006, AMNB Statutory Trust I, a Delaware statutory trust and wholly owned subsidiary company limited by shares, was established for the purpose of issuing private placement preferred securities subject to applicable exemptions pursuant to registration. The proceeds from the securities are used to invest in the acquisition of First Community Financial Corporation. In June 2006, the company completed the acquisition and acquired 100% of the preferred and common shares of the original company through a merger and acquisition transaction. First Community Bank Corporation is a bank holding company headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia. Through its subsidiaries, First Community Bank serves the city from four banking branches located in Lynchburg, Bedford, Nelson and Amorst Counties. National Bank of America, Inc., and its wholly-owned subsidiary National Bank and Trust Company. The bank offers a range of retail, commercial, secondary market mortgage, trust and investment services, including non-deposit products such as mutual funds and insurance policies.
