Zora Unveils Meme Coin Airdrop: 1 Billion Tokens for Creators
Ethereum NFT Protocol Zora Unveils Token Airdrop Plans
Ethereum-based NFT and tokenization protocol Zora has announced plans to launch its own token, ZORA, this spring. The platform, which has been working on bringing creativity onto the blockchain through tokenization for several years, will launch its self-described meme coin on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network.
In a blog post, Zora expressed gratitude to its community for supporting its vision, stating, "What started as an experiment six years ago has turned into something larger than we could have imagined." As a token of appreciation, the platform will airdrop 10% of its token supply, or 1 billion ZORA tokens, to its community of creators, collectors, and builders, based on a snapshot taken on March 3. A second snapshot will occur three days before the token's launch, with the exact date yet to be announced.
In addition to the 1 billion tokens earmarked for the airdrop, an additional 20% of the token supply will be reserved for community incentives such as hackathons and future grants. The team and strategic contributors will receive 45% of the supply, subject to a six-month cliff and a three-year vesting period. A detailed tokenomics breakdown can be found on the project's support page.
Since its launch, Zora has facilitated over $376 million in secondary trading volume and enabled NFT or token collection by more than 2.4 million wallets. In June 2023, the platform launched its own Ethereum layer-2 network to combat high gas fees on the Ethereum mainnet. Recently, Zora announced a feature allowing any user to generate a token tradable on leading Ethereum decentralized exchange Uniswap using any post.
