XST Cash Cat: Osisko Gold Confirms High-Grade Proserpine Target With Open Pit Potential
- Osisko Gold Group confirmed a new high-grade gold mineralized system at its Proserpine target in British Columbia.
- Initial drilling intersected 95.93 g/t Au over 4.60 meters, including a 0.50-meter interval of 873 g/t Au.
- Analysts highlight the large footprint and open-ended nature of the discovery as significant growth drivers.
- Osisko plans 26,500 meters of additional drilling to expand the Proserpine mineralized system.
Osisko Gold Group Inc. has announced the initial results from a surface exploration drilling program at its Proserpine regional greenfield target. Located approximately seven kilometers southeast of its permitted Cariboo Gold Project in central British Columbia, the target has revealed an emerging gold mineralized system. The drilling program confirmed the presence of high-grade structures similar to those at the main Cariboo deposit, alongside broader zones of lower-grade mineralization. These broader zones suggest the potential for bulk or open-pit mining methods in the future.
The initial campaign completed 14 drill holes totaling 6,463 meters. Key results included an intercept of 95.93 grams per tonne gold over 4.60 meters at a vertical depth of 71 meters. This intercept contained a high-grade interval of 873.00 grams per tonne gold over 0.50 meters. Other significant intersections included 5.46 grams per tonne gold over 8.60 meters and 2.17 grams per tonne gold over 14.45 meters at deeper intervals.
Mineralization was encountered from near-surface to depths exceeding 400 meters. All drill holes that reached their target depths intersected mineralization, providing a strong basis for systematic follow-up. The known mineralized footprint at Proserpine has been expanded to approximately one kilometer along strike by 0.5 kilometers in width. The system remains open in all directions, indicating significant exploration upside.
The results have generated positive market reaction. Osisko Gold’s stock rose over 12 percent following the announcement of the high-grade intercepts and the potential for open-pit mining. Analysts at National Bank Financial noted that while the exceptional grades are noteworthy, the scale of the discovery is the more critical factor. The broad footprint and open-ended nature of the mineralization are key drivers for future resource growth.
What Is the Exploration Potential at Proserpine?
The Proserpine target represents a significant exploration upside to the base case resource at the Cariboo project. Osisko’s main development project, Cariboo, is a permitted underground operation. A 2025 feasibility study estimated a 10-year life producing 1.89 million ounces of gold. The study projected an after-tax net present value of $943 million. Proserpine offers the prospect of a sizeable new gold system close to the existing infrastructure.

Preliminary geological observations indicate that siliceous sandstone units are more favorable hosts for mineralization than calcareous sandstone. These findings have guided the initial drilling strategy. The company plans to test a larger anomaly measuring 6.0 kilometers by 1.0 kilometer. The goal is to expand the mineralized footprint and assess the resource potential at Proserpine.
Drilling has resumed with three active rigs. Osisko plans to complete an additional 26,500 meters of drilling. The campaign will focus on increasing drill density at Proserpine Southeast. It will also initiate first-pass drilling at previously untested targets at Proserpine Northwest. This systematic approach aims to define the extent and continuity of the mineralized system.
How Does Proserpine Fit Into Osisko’s Strategy?
The discovery at Proserpine aligns with Osisko’s strategy of expanding its land package in central British Columbia. The Cariboo Gold Project hosts significant probable and indicated mineral resources. Proserpine adds a new dimension to the project by potentially supporting open-pit mining methods. This could complement the planned underground operation at Cariboo.
The company noted that the drilling has outlined a new mineralized system with significant scale. The results provide a compelling basis for systematic follow-up drilling. The footprint expansion and open-ended nature of the mineralization suggest further growth potential. Analysts view this as a key driver for future resource growth.
The exploration campaign underscores the prospect of a sizeable new gold system near the permitted Cariboo project. The results have expanded the known mineralized footprint at Proserpine. The company plans to continue drilling to test larger targets and expand the resource. This exploration upside supports the long-term development strategy of Osisko Gold GroupOGG--.
Osisko Gold continues to evaluate the economic viability of the Proserpine target. The combination of high-grade structures and broader lower-grade zones suggests multiple mining methods. The company remains focused on expanding the known resource through systematic drilling. The results so far indicate strong potential for resource growth at the Proserpine target.
