Global cryptocurrency investment products recorded $812 million in outflows during the week ending September 27, 2025, marking the end of a two-week inflow streak, according to CoinShares. Total assets under management (AUM) for exchange-traded products (ETPs) fell to $221 billion, down from a record $241 billion the prior week. The decline was attributed to waning investor confidence in potential U.S. interest rate cuts, as noted by CoinShares research head James Butterfill.
(BTC) and (ETH) ETPs were the hardest hit, with outflows of $719 million and $409 million, respectively. Bitcoin’s price dipped 3.4% to an intraweek low of $109,000, while saw similar downward pressure.Amid the broader outflows,
(SOL) ETPs emerged as a standout, attracting $291 million in inflows. Butterfill linked the surge to growing anticipation for U.S. exchange-traded fund (ETF) approvals, with Bloomberg analysts assigning a 95% probability of regulatory clearance for Solana ETFs in 2025. This optimism contrasts with the bearish sentiment surrounding Bitcoin and Ethereum, where cumulative net inflows for the year-to-date stood at $39.6 billion, despite the recent losses. CoinShares noted that crypto ETPs remain well-positioned to maintain momentum, potentially matching last year’s record inflow of $48.6 billion. The outflows were driven by institutional redemptions from major providers. Fidelity’s FBTC and
Invest’s ARKB led Bitcoin ETF outflows with $331 million and $327 million, respectively, while Grayscale’s GBTC lost $66.8 million. Ethereum ETFs, which had maintained a 20-day inflow streak, recorded $152 million in redemptions. Total AUM for Bitcoin ETFs dropped to $146.5 billion, representing 6.46% of the cryptocurrency’s market cap. Meanwhile, Ethereum ETFs now hold $20.1 billion in assets, or 4.70% of ETH’s market cap.Despite the outflows, trading volumes remained robust, with Bitcoin ETFs seeing $6.13 billion in daily trading activity. BlackRock’s IBIT alone accounted for $4.54 billion of that volume, suggesting sustained institutional interest. For Ethereum, Grayscale’s ETHE led redemptions with $47.7 million, followed by Bitwise’s ETHW with $40.3 million. Analysts highlighted that corporate treasuries are increasingly holding Ethereum, with institutional holdings now totaling 2.73 million ETH—2.26% of the circulating supply.
The market’s focus on Solana reflects broader shifts in investor strategy. Institutional demand for altcoin exposure is rising, with Bloomberg analysts raising the approval odds for Solana,
, and ETFs to 95%. A proposed crypto index ETF, which would track multiple assets, also faces heightened expectations for regulatory approval. CoinShares’ Butterfill emphasized that Solana’s inflows signal a pivot toward altcoins as investors seek diversification amid Bitcoin’s volatility. This trend aligns with corporate accumulation strategies, as firms like Ether Machine and BitMine Immersion Technologies continue to build Ethereum treasuries.Source: [1] Crypto funds bleed $812M, but Solana bucks the trend with gains (https://cointelegraph.com/news/crypto-etps-812-million-outflows-solana-shines-gains) [2] Bitcoin ETFs Bleed $812M as Ether ETFs Break 20-Day Inflow Streak (https://cryptonews.com/news/bitcoin-etfs-bleed-812m-as-ether-etfs-break-20-day-inflow-streak/) [3] Spot Bitcoin ETFs See $812M in Outflow as Market Turns Bearish (https://www.cryptotimes.io/2025/08/02/spot-bitcoin-etfs-see-812m-in-outflow-as-market-turns-bearish/) [4] Institutions Pull $812M from Bitcoin ETFs as Market Rebalances (https://en.crypto-news.media/institutions-pull-812m-from-bitcoin-etfs-as-market-rebalances/) [5] XRP Gains Attention as $48.9M Whale Sparks Institutional Buzz (https://coincentral.com/xrp-gains-attention-as-48-9m-whale-buy-sparks-institutional-buzz/) [6] Ripple (XRP) Price Analysis: $5 Forecasts Surge on Kalshi as Whale Buys 17.5M XRP (https://www.coinspeaker.com/ripple-xrp-price-analysis-5-forecasts-surge-on-kalshi-as-kraken-whale-moves-17555420-xrp/) [7] 30,000,000 XRP Bought by Whales in 24H: What Do They Know?
