Ripple Labs has announced an additional $5 million investment to support academic research and foster blockchain talent in the Asia-Pacific region. This funding will be channeled through Ripple's University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), which aims to enhance the understanding and application of blockchain technology within the academic community. The initiative will extend its reach to universities in six countries, with new grants allocated to institutions in Taiwan and Australia.
UBRI has already made significant commitments to various universities in the region. In South Korea, Yonsei University has received $1.1 million over a six-year partnership. In Japan, Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo have been allocated $1.5 million. In Singapore, the total funding has surpassed $3 million, distributed between Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore. Professor Yang Liu of Nanyang Technological University highlighted the impact of these grants, stating that they have enhanced the university's research and development efforts, particularly in developing an AI agent network on the XRP Ledger.
In Taiwan, UBRI is collaborating with the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology to explore real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Echo Huang, a professor at the university, expressed excitement about this partnership, noting its potential to advance the understanding and application of RWA tokenization on the XRP Ledger. In Australia, UBRI has strengthened its ties with the Australian National University and Victoria University, bringing its total allocation to $1.3 million across these institutions.
