Ripple and Gemini have collaborated to launch the
Credit Card, a limited-edition metal card offering up to 4% cashback in XRP on eligible purchases. Available exclusively to U.S. customers, the card is issued by WebBank and operates on the network. The card features distinct branding, including the Gemini logo and the XRP symbol, and is marketed as a tool to increase the token’s real-world utility. It offers tiered cashback rates: 4% on gas, electric vehicle charging, and transit; 3% on dining; 2% on groceries; and 1% on general purchases. Cashback is distributed in XRP tokens instantly, eliminating the need for fiat currency rewards [1].This initiative is viewed as a strategic effort to expand XRP’s usage beyond speculative trading and into everyday financial activities. Gemini’s co-founders, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, highlighted the card’s appeal to the XRP community, with Tyler calling it a tool “made for you” and encouraging the XRP Army to take advantage of the rewards. The card is available with no annual fee and is part of Gemini’s broader consumer-focused product suite [2].
Analysts suggest that the timing of the launch—coinciding with Ripple’s resolution of its legal dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)—is significant. The settlement, finalized in August 2025, cleared XRP’s status as a utility token rather than a security, reducing regulatory uncertainty and opening the door for broader adoption. The credit card is seen as a key component in Ripple’s strategy to integrate XRP into mainstream financial infrastructure, particularly in cross-border payments [3].
The XRP Credit Card’s structure mirrors traditional rewards cards, but with a unique twist: instead of cashback in dollars, users earn XRP tokens, which can be held, traded, or converted into stablecoins like RLUSD. Ripple emphasized that this functionality allows for simplified trading and “fast and simple access to crypto and stable value.” The immediate accumulation of XRP through daily transactions could offer long-term value for users, despite the inherent volatility of the token [4].
Critics, however, caution that the volatility of XRP may pose risks for users seeking stable returns. Proponents, on the other hand, argue that the card provides a practical mechanism for token accumulation, reinforcing XRP’s utility in the digital payments ecosystem. The card also aligns with Ripple’s broader efforts to expand XRP’s role in its On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) service, which is already used by over 350
globally for low-cost cross-border transactions [5].With regulatory clarity now established, some analysts forecast increased institutional investment in XRP and the potential approval of a spot XRP ETF, which could further drive demand. Price targets for XRP have also been raised, with some analysts projecting a range of $5.50 to $10 by year-end, based on growing real-world utility and a fixed supply model [6].
The XRP Credit Card represents a significant step in the token’s evolution from a speculative asset to a functional utility token. For investors, the focus is shifting to XRP’s role in global payment infrastructure and its potential to deliver long-term value. As adoption grows and institutional support strengthens, XRP is increasingly positioned as a compelling asset in both retail and institutional portfolios [7].
