Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz has indicated that a significant upgrade to the
Ledger (XRPL) is expected to go live as early as next week. The enhancement, dubbed the “hub” system, is designed to improve the network's stability and connectivity, particularly under heavy traffic. Over the past few days, Schwartz has been running a hub server and monitoring its performance, noting that the system has demonstrated smooth operation with latency remaining well below 33 milliseconds. This performance has led to the conclusion that the hub is now stable enough for production use [1].The hub serves a critical role in ensuring that XRPL nodes remain connected, especially during periods of stress. By mitigating the risk of synchronization issues, the upgrade strengthens the overall reliability of the XRP Ledger. This is particularly relevant for the XRP network, which has maintained a continuous record of operation since 2012. The enhancement aligns with XRPL’s emphasis on stability and resilience, which are key attributes for both investors and developers [2].
Despite these technical improvements, the XRP Ledger has faced scrutiny regarding its security and decentralization. It recently ranked at the bottom of Kaiko’s Blockchain Ecosystem Ranking with a score of 41 out of 100. In response, Schwartz emphasized the role of the Unique Node List (UNL) system, which allows validators to interact only with trusted participants, enabling the community to reject bad actors swiftly. This mechanism ensures that Ripple does not exert control over the ledger [3].
In addition to the hub upgrade, Schwartz has announced the deployment of a high-performance server hub, operating independently of Ripple. This initiative, detailed in a recent post, is intended to support XRPL validators and applications. The server is equipped with enterprise-grade specifications, including an AMD 9950X CPU, 256GB of RAM, and a 10GB unmetered connection. The hub will reserve capacity for key infrastructure while offering remaining resources to the public on a best-effort basis [4].
The potential integration of the hub into the live network could significantly enhance the XRP Ledger’s robustness, reinforcing its ability to scale and support a broader range of use cases. The update aligns with Ripple’s ongoing efforts to improve the security and adaptability of the XRPL, addressing the evolving demands of the cryptocurrency ecosystem. For the XRP community, this development signals renewed confidence in the network’s technical foundation, potentially encouraging further adoption by developers and businesses [5].
