BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, is anticipated to file for spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tracking
and (SOL) by the October regulatory deadline, according to Nate Geraci, president of NovaDius Wealth Management. Geraci emphasized on the Thinking Crypto podcast that recent regulatory changes—particularly the SEC’s approval of in-kind creation and redemption mechanisms—have made crypto ETFs more efficient and less costly to operate. Despite these developments, several already-approved ETFs, including those from Grayscale and Bitwise, remain pending, largely due to internal SEC delays and resistance from Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw [1].Geraci pointed to emerging pro-crypto voices within the SEC, such as Paul Atkins, as potential catalysts for broader regulatory acceptance. He argued that the agency is delaying a comprehensive framework to control the pace of expansion, rather than addressing the market’s readiness. BlackRock’s existing tokenized money market fund, available on both
and Solana, signals the firm’s strategic interest in a multi-chain future, making XRP and Solana natural candidates for future ETF offerings [2].The expert also highlighted the inconsistency in regulatory treatment, noting that while ETFs can legally hold up to 15% in illiquid private assets, those holding 85% in major cryptocurrencies like
and Ethereum face more scrutiny. The fact that futures-based XRP and Solana ETFs are already live further underscores this contradiction. Geraci argued that the U.S. is “nearing the finish line” in crypto ETF expansion, with growing legislative support, rising financial advisor engagement, and heightened mainstream awareness all contributing to an environment favorable for new products [3].According to Geraci,
is “just running late” in filing its XRP and Solana ETFs but is expected to meet the October deadline. The firm’s involvement in the space, particularly its cross-chain strategy, reinforces the broader trend of institutional players preparing for a diversified crypto market. The potential approval of staking within Ethereum ETFs, driven by increasing institutional pressure, is also seen as an upcoming regulatory milestone [4].With over $27 billion flowing into spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs so far this year, the demand for expanded crypto ETF options is clear. A successful filing by BlackRock for XRP and Solana would likely trigger greater liquidity, broader market participation, and a more mature investment framework for digital assets. However, regulatory challenges persist, and approval remains subject to the SEC’s evolving approach to oversight [1].
The market has already responded positively to speculation about the filings, with both XRP and Solana experiencing recent price gains. As the October deadline approaches, investors and industry participants are closely watching for regulatory developments that could shape the future of crypto ETFs and institutional adoption [2].
