WTW has partnered with Klarity to enhance life insurance underwriting by incorporating data from wearable technology into the process. Klarity's risk scoring mechanism provides individual mortality scores, addressing limitations in traditional assessments. The partnership aims to improve the accuracy of life insurance pricing and enable better risk stratification.
In a significant move to improve life insurance underwriting, WTW (NASDAQ: WTW) has partnered with Klarity, a UK-based health data analytics firm. The collaboration aims to incorporate data from wearable technology into the underwriting process, leveraging Klarity's advanced risk scoring mechanism to provide individual mortality scores. This partnership is set to address the limitations of traditional assessments, thereby enhancing the accuracy of life insurance pricing and enabling better risk stratification.
Klarity's risk scoring mechanism, developed using over six million life years of data spanning 12 years, integrates data from external sources including smartwatches and other wearable devices that monitor various health metrics. The tool produces individual-level mortality scores to predict and classify risks more accurately. WTW's collaboration with Klarity included testing the efficacy of the model's mortality score predictions on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The findings indicate that Klarity's model can more clearly identify individual mortality risk profiles, enabling improved risk segmentation and aligning pricing more accurately than traditional underwriting metrics alone.
The partnership is expected to redefine risk assessment and improve mortality prediction by incorporating data on physical activity, heart rate, and sleep patterns. This integration of diverse health and behavioral data can strengthen customer engagement and loyalty, as well as enhance the overall customer experience.
