Ming-Chi Kuo Analyzes Nvidia GB200 NVL36/72 Shipments: NVL72 Single Cabinet Version Cannot Be Mass Produced Short-Term, NVL36 Faces Unprecedented Design and Production Challenges
Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released an analysis today regarding the short-term factors potentially affecting the shipment of Nvidia GB200 NVL36/72. He believes that at least in the short term, investment decisions need to consider more aspects rather than solely relying on supply chain surveys, especially when the relevant stocks have already largely reflected the optimistic expectations of GB200 NVL36/72's contribution to the supply chain. Kuo points out that each GB200 NVL36 cabinet consumes about 80kW of power. According to an AMAX survey in April this year, currently, less than 5% of data centers worldwide can support servers with 50kW per cabinet. Therefore, before purchasing GB200 NVL36, one must ensure there is enough space for installation. Additionally, the NVL72 single cabinet version, which consumes 130kW per cabinet, cannot be mass-produced short-term. Although there is an NVL72 solution providing dual NVL36 cabinets, the key selling point of NVL72 when proposed to customers is to offer the maximum AI computing power with the smallest space, so it remains to be seen if the dual NVL36 cabinet solution, which takes up more space, will be favored by customers. The computing power advantage of GB200 NVL36 is undeniable, but it also faces many unprecedented design and production challenges.
