Women in Web3 Industry Call for Clarity, Education, and Community to Attract More Women
During the Blockchain Baddies side event at Token2049 in Dubai, women in the Web3 industry shared their experiences and insights on how to attract more women into the crypto space. The consensus among the participants was that clarity, education, and community are key factors in making the industry more accessible to women.
Caroline York, the marketing director of Web3 firm Serotonin, emphasized the importance of making information more digestible and clear. She noted that women often feel safer in high-trust environments and learn best from peers and friends. York highlighted community-driven educationalEDUC-- initiatives like SheFi as effective in expanding female participation in the space.
Saima Tariq Khan, an engineer, educator, and crypto community member, agreed that demystifying the complex vocabulary of crypto is crucial. She pointed out that while many women graduate from computer science courses, they are underrepresented in the workforce. Khan suggested that Web3's remote-friendly nature could engage an untapped talent pool of women.
Paloma Soria Brown, an author and SheFi scholar, stressed that financial literacy should be the starting point for education in the crypto space. She noted that many people are unaware of what Web3 means and may only see the negative aspects of crypto, such as scams and rug pulls. Brown believes that increasing financial education and building trust are essential to attracting more women and people into the industry.
Abigail Xavier, marketing manager at Web3 financial platform Fasset, highlighted the role of companies in making crypto more accessible to women. She mentioned that their team actively seeks input from women-focused communities to improve their products, making the platform and tools more intuitive for female users.
