Jannik Sinner has secured a spot in the Wimbledon final after defeating Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-finals. The match was a one-sided affair, with Djokovic struggling with an injury that forced him to cancel practice the day before. Sinner's victory sets up a rematch of their French Open semifinal match from last month.Sinner, who is currently the world's top-ranked player, showcased his dominance throughout the match. Despite Djokovic's movement being below his trademark best due to the injury, Sinner was clinical and precise. He broke Djokovic's serve early in the third game and cruised to a two-set lead without any real peril. Djokovic, who won just 17% of points behind his second serve overall, received a medical timeout on his left thigh at the end of the second set but was unable to maintain his momentum.
Djokovic's injury seemed to have a significant impact on his performance. He fell in the final game against Cobolli on Wednesday and seemed to struggle with pushing off to get back into court if taken wide during the semi-final against Sinner. Sinner, on the other hand, delivered an early blow by breaking Djokovic's serve in the third game and cruised to a two-set lead without any real peril.
Sinner's victory marks his fifth consecutive match against Djokovic, a streak that includes Grand Slam semi-final triumphs at the 2024 Australian Open, 2025 Roland Garros, and now Wimbledon. This victory also completes Sinner's set of final appearances at all four Grand Slam events, making him the 11th man to achieve this feat in the Open Era.
The final match will be between Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who leads Sinner 8-4 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. Alcaraz has won five consecutive Grand Slam finals, including the 2022 and 2023 US Open, and the 2023 Australian Open. This match will be crucial in determining the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours, as Alcaraz currently leads Sinner by 2,240 points in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin. However, Sinner will reduce this deficit to 1,540 points by winning the title.
