Whataburger, the iconic Texas-based burger chain, marked its 75th anniversary with an enticing offer that had burger enthusiasts lining up. On Friday, August 8th, patrons had the opportunity to purchase Whataburger's No. 1 classic burger for just 75 cents, slashing the typical price by nearly $5. In conjunction with this significant milestone, the company's celebration included releasing limited-edition commemorative cups and hosting a special event at their hometown, all in acknowledgment of their enduring presence and popularity within the communities they serve.
The discounted burgers, a one-day-only offer, were exclusively available to customers who made digital purchases through the Whataburger app or website, specifically restricting the offer to Whataburger Rewards members. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time, rewards members could indulge in the classic burger, with add-ons available for an additional charge. This limited-time promotion underscored Whataburger's commitment to rewarding customer loyalty and enhancing the customer experience through digital engagement.
To further amplify the festivities, Whataburger hosted celebrations in Corpus Christi, where the company was founded in 1950. The event featured a vibrant "Orange Out" night at Whataburger Field as the Corpus Christi Hooks faced the Tulsa Drillers. Enthusiasts were encouraged to don their favorite orange outfits, symbolizing the company's distinctive brand color, while enjoying giveaways such as merchandise and food coupons. The night concluded with a “dazzling orange fireworks show," and attendees received a coupon for a free Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, a beloved menu item, as a parting gift.
The anniversary celebration extended beyond discounts and commemorative events. Starting August 5th, Whataburger unveiled its second collection of limited-edition 32-ounce commemorative cups, crafted to reflect the rich heritage of the brand. New designs inspired by classic table tents and A-frame architecture were introduced weekly, providing a tangible keepsake for devoted Whataburger fans. Available both in select restaurants and online, these cups added another layer of engagement for the brand's loyal following.
Reflecting on the company's journey, Whataburger President and CEO Debbie Stroud emphasized the integral role that people—customers and staff alike—have played in making the company a household name for over seven decades. The anniversary festivities were a gesture of gratitude from the brand, celebrating the trust and loyalty of its patrons and the communities that have embraced Whataburger like family.
Whataburger's expansive reach now includes over 1,100 restaurants across 17 states, primarily in Texas, the South, and the Southwest. The chain's continued growth and ability to innovate while honoring customer preferences and regional tastes highlight its status as a fast-food staple, beloved for its made-to-order burgers and unique flavor offerings.
The 75th anniversary was not just a celebration of what has been achieved; it was a reaffirmation of Whataburger's commitment to providing quality experiences and products. It brought together elements of nostalgia and forward-thinking initiatives, ensuring the brand remains relevant and cherished. As Whataburger forges ahead, it carries with it the memories, traditions, and unwavering quality that have cemented its iconic status over the years.
