Warren Criticizes Meta's Benefit From Trump Tax Bill
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has publicly criticized Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) for alleged tax windfalls under President Donald Trump's new legislative package, known as the "Big Beautiful Bill." Warren argues that the tax break offered to Meta far exceeds what ordinary Americans could contribute.
On Tuesday, Warren posted on X (formerly Twitter) that if every one of the 340 million people in America paid a new $35 copay to visit the doctor, it still wouldn't cover the tax break Meta would receive from just one provision in the bill. This highlights the senator's concern that the bill disproportionately benefits corporations like Meta at the expense of everyday Americans.
Warren's criticism is part of a broader campaign against the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," which she believes could cause 16 million Americans to lose health coverage and add $2.4 trillion to the national debt. She has also opposed a provision in the bill that would prevent states from regulating artificial intelligence for 10 years, arguing it could lead to higher rents by protecting companies like RealPage.
The U.S. population is estimated at 342 million, according to the Census. This number, as Warren pointed out, wouldn't be enough to offset the tax break given to Meta under the "Big Beautiful Bill." Warren's comments come after Meta's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, and Amazon's Jeff Bezos each contributed $1 million to Trump's Jan. 20 inauguration.
Warren and Meta did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comments.
