The DecisionTower™, an AI-powered machine vision technology, detects package contents and identifies the precise amount of void fill material required to offer optimal product protection. It then communicates this information to the AutoFill™ machine, which dispenses the paper void fill, closes, and seals the box. This automation not only enhances efficiency but also reduces waste and shipping contents damage.
The upcoming deployment will include Walmart's fulfillment centers in Greencastle, PA, Joliet, IL, Lancaster, TX, and Stockton, CA. This agreement represents an intentional investment by Walmart to prioritize speed to customers and remove friction for associates. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to reducing friction for associates while optimizing performance across every stage of the supply chain.
Ranpak's AutoFill™ system, introduced in 2021, is a fully automated solution for void filling and box closing. When paired with the Decision Tower, it leverages AI to precisely measure voids, enabling the optimal amount of paper filler required to protect products during shipment. This solution allows Walmart to ship customer orders faster by removing another step in an already streamlined process and allows fulfillment center associates to focus on fulfilling orders more efficiently for customers.
"Our collaboration with Walmart represents a significant milestone for Ranpak as we continue to scale our automation capabilities to meet the needs of the world's largest retailers," said Omar Asali, Chairman and CEO of Ranpak. "Walmart’s ongoing investment in automation reflects our shared commitment to reducing friction for associates while optimizing performance across every stage of the supply chain."
By streamlining the end-of-line packaging process, the AutoFill™ solution allows Walmart to ship customer orders faster and reduces packaging waste. This initiative aligns with Walmart's ongoing efforts to enhance customer service and simplify work for associates.
