Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ: WMT) announced on March 12, 2026, the appointment of Erin Nealy Cox as Executive Vice President of Global Governance, Chief Legal Officer (CLO), and Corporate Secretary, effective April 13, 2026 according to corporate announcements. Cox succeeds David F. Dillon, who retired earlier this year. Her role encompasses global legal, compliance, ethics, corporate governance, litigation, and enterprise risk management functions.

Cox brings extensive experience in legal and regulatory affairs, having served as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas from 2017 to 2021, where she oversaw high-profile investigations involving white-collar crime, cybercrime, and public corruption. Prior to that, she led incident response at Stroz Friedberg, a cybersecurity firm, and held roles at Kirkland & Ellis LLP according to her professional background. Her career also includes nearly a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the same district.

Walmart President and CEO John Furner emphasized Cox's "rare combination of legal strategy and operational rigor" as critical for navigating retail's evolving regulatory landscape. Cox highlighted her alignment with Walmart's purpose of "helping people save money and live better," noting her experience in both public and private sectors.

The appointment reflects Walmart's focus on strengthening governance amid ongoing digital transformation and regulatory scrutiny. Cox's background in cybersecurity, investigations, and compliance is expected to bolster the company's risk management framework. With her expertise in multi-jurisdictional disputes and corporate governance, she will oversee a broad portfolio, including Walmart's Global Security Operations Center.

This leadership change follows broader executive reshuffles aimed at accelerating Walmart's strategic priorities under CEO John Furner.
