Walmart Inc. has announced plans to reorganize several hundred support and training positions across its stores, as part of its ongoing efforts to streamline its organizational structure and enhance operational efficiency. This decision was communicated to employees through an internal memo, which detailed the elimination of the "market coordinator" position. This role was responsible for assisting managers with data compilation and analysis.
The memo also revealed that
intends to adjust certain positions within its training academy. The focus will shift towards stores with higher foot traffic, and there will be an increase in face-to-face training for employees. Despite these changes, Walmart has assured that affected employees will be offered alternative positions, such as coaching roles. In regions where there are no available positions, the company plans to create new ones to accommodate the displaced employees.Walmart, as the largest private employer in the United States, has approximately 1.6 million employees in the country and around 2.1 million globally. This latest round of restructuring underscores the company's commitment to optimizing its operations. Earlier this year, in May, Walmart announced plans to lay off around 1,500 employees, impacting its global technology operations team, the e-commerce fulfillment department in U.S. stores, and its advertising arm, Walmart Connect.
In February, Walmart had already begun relocating employees to its main hubs in California and Arkansas, resulting in the closure of an office in North Carolina. Additionally, in May, Walmart indicated that the high costs associated with tariffs imposed by Donald Trump could potentially lead to price increases for its products. This move highlights the company's efforts to navigate the challenges posed by external economic factors while continuing to streamline its internal operations.
